Choosing a Bookmaker for the Big Days: Cheltenham, Football and the NBA

Betting is a big part of British gambling, and much of it now happens on a phone. Danny’s Tip: Getting More From a £10 Free Bet
A free bet’s stake isn’t returned, so only the profit counts. That changes how you should use it.
Say you have a £10 free bet. Put it on a selection at evens (2.0) and a win returns £10. Put it on a selection at 4.0 and a win returns £30. The longer price wins less often, but each win is worth three times as much. Over a season, free bets at bigger odds tend to give you more back.
The same logic works for Bet Builders. William Hill’s FBB40 free bets can all go on Bet Builders. A Bet Builder of two or three selections that make sense together, such as a team to win and both teams to score, usually prices up well above evens, which is where a free bet does its best work.
Always check the minimum odds and the expiry before you bet. Most free bets here expire after 7 days.

The big change for bookmakers comes on 1 April 2027, when a new 25% remote betting rate replaces the 15% duty on most online bets. Bets on UK horse racing stay at 15%.
